COMPOSING YOUR OWN WALKING SCORE

____________________________________________________________________________

Composing a walking score can be a challenging and rewarding experience. You are taking it upon yourself to create a unique walking experience for someone you might not know. In most cases, the only evidence that your score was successfully performed will be the performance documentation (like the ones found on the performance documentation page). You can use this abstract representation of your performed score as part of your motivation. Ask yourself, "How can I best get my performer to generate a visually interesting visualization of their experience?" When combined with the initial motivation of creating an interesting walk, and a little practice, you might eventually be able to compose a true walking masterpiece.

As a composer you will need to study the key and familiarize yourself with the variety of notations used for a Walking Score.

It is recommended that you perform a practice walking score before attempting to compose your own. A practice Walking Score can be found on the scores page.

Once you are familiar with the elements of a score, you can download a blank score sheet and write your own composition.

When writing your first score it may be helpful to think of a specific place where your score might be performed/walked.
